Cheer Program
Ribét's Cheer Program provides opportunities for students (boys and girls) in grades one through twelve to support the athletic programs and general school spirit. While they are keeping school spirit vibrant the students are also gaining experience with teamwork and competition as all of the programs participate in competitions throughout the area, state and often on to national competitions.
Elementary
Students in grades first through fifth can join Ribét's Pep Squad. This popular after-school program meets once a week from 3:30 – 4:30. Participants learn cheer skills including jumps, tumbling, stunts, motions and dance. The Pep Squad shows the school their spirit at the Homecoming half-time show, a basketball game and select assemblies. They also enter at least one competition during the year.
Middle School
The Ribét Junior High Cheer Squad is for students in grades six through eight. This is an after-school program that meets one to two times a week. Students learn cheer skills including jumps, tumbling, stunts, motions and dance. They also learn cheers and side-line dances which they perform at the Middle School Boys' Basketball games and selected football games. The team also enters at least one competition during the year. The program is designed as a feeder for the Varsity Cheer Squad.
High School
Varsity Cheer at Ribét is a year round class with a grade and can be used for High School PE credit. The class meets daily during "8th period" (3:30 – 5:30) like the other athletic teams. Cheerleaders not only support the other athletic teams on campus; cheerleaders need to be athletes themselves. Cheerleaders also must be excellent students and through the program gain the skill of learning to manage their time wisely, terrific preparation for the demands of college. Other skills and qualities that Cheerleading fosters are: leadership, respect, courtesy, tolerance, self-control, sportsmanship and citizenship, responsibility, patience, communication, personal expression and self-confidence. The Cheer Squad performs at pep rallies, varsity football, volleyball and basketball games. They also enter 4 to 5 competitions over the course of the year. Participants will gain the skills needed to lead a crowd and should have the necessary skills to try out for cheerleading at their colleges.
