Enrichment & Elective Offerings

Science Fair

2001 was the first year of what has become Ribét Academy's signature academic event. All Middle and High school students taking a science class prepare a project for the fair. One week each March the Ribét Gymnasium is filled with projects in the categories of Architecture, Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, Engineering, Physics and Psychology. Winners of the Science and Technology Fair may go on to compete at the LA County Science Fair, the AESA Science Olympiad and the California State Science Fair.

Ribét is very proud that so many science professionals have contributed so much to the science fair year after year. Upwards of sixty professionals generously donate their free time mentoring the students during the process as well as judging the finished projects. Mentors and judges have included professionals from the following prestigious organizations: CalTech, JPL, Raytheon, Northrup Grumman, USC, as well as practicing Doctors and Dentists.

The Science Fair also provides a unique opportunity for students to explore the intersection of their study areas. English faculty review and comment on the students' written reports, Art faculty critique their board presentations, the Theatre and Debate faculty help with their oral presentations and History faculty help incorporate timelines and historical accuracy. Having this type of inter-disciplinary experience prepares our students for the current focus on these types of connections that are being examined in universities across the country.
