Enrichment & Elective Offerings
Theatre
Our Theatre Arts program is part of the Ribét Curriculum starting with First Grade and is available as an elective option for Middle and High School students. Each year, the Theatre Arts Department produces two Mainstage shows; a drama or non-musical in the Fall and a musical in the Spring.
ELEMENTARY DRAMA
Elementary students at Ribét Academy are given the opportunity to develop a variety of communication skills through our Theatre Arts program. Our elementary theatre program encourages students to build their self-esteem and confidence. Creativity is encouraged through various classroom exercises, theatre games and techniques based on the teachings of Viola Spolin. These techniques give students the opportunity to creatively explore different aspects of themselves through the use of body, voice, and mind. In-school productions, at various times throughout the school year, give all elementary students the opportunity to perform for their family and peers. In the fifth grade, students begin their study of Shakespeare in the classroom. Then, students are given the unique opportunity to carry this knowledge into their theatre studies as they rehearse and perform an edited version of a Shakespearean play.
PRODUCTIONS
Ribét's Theatre Arts Productions are an after-school activity. Students do more than just perform, handling and learning about all the elements that must come together for a successful show. There are generally two shows a year, in the Fall a drama or non-musical followed by a musical production in the Spring. Starting in the Fall of 2007 we had two fall shows. The Middle School students had a non-musical production before the holiday break and the High School non-musical production was staged after the New Year. When there are enough interested students the musical production will be double cast with both a Middle School and a High School cast. Audition announcements are posted on the Theatre Arts Call Board and announced in the AM Prep. Performances are held in the evening and on weekends. Parents with a background and interest in Theatre are encouraged to be involved.
