Science and Technology

The pedagogical approach of Science at Ribét Academy is utilizing multimodality. Lively theoretical instruction uses state of the art media (websites, videos, models, etc) accompanied by experimental and demonstrative procedures. Ribét Academy is proud to have advanced Biology, Chemistry and Physics laboratories. This is possible through the generous funding by Ribét Education Fund (REF), the Ribét Parent Teacher Organization (RPTO) and our generous parents. The learning experience at Ribét Academy is enhanced through the Science Fair.

Every student in Middle School through High School participates. It is the largest academic event at Ribét, usually hosting approximately 325 projects. In conjunction with our Science Fair, we also provide our students with the traditional education practices and courses. Ribét offers all the fundamental science courses such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. In addition, we offer AP Biology, AP Chemistry and AP Physics. In the 2004-2005 school year, the Science Department introduced Honors Marine Biology. This course is a University of California approved Honors course. The Marine Biology Laboratory with approximately 2000 gallons of saltwater coursing through the different aquariums supports the program and is shared with the entire school. In addition, through the generous contribution of the Krol family we have established an Electronics laboratory.

From 25 to 30 percent of Ribét’s graduates are choosing college majors in Science, Engineering and pre-med. Many of these students are attending universities such as UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego and UC Irvine, Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania. These students have been academically successful, due in part to the preparation they received at Ribét Academy. We look forward to their future contributions to both Science and the world.

Ribét's Computer Education classes have one goal in mind: to help the kids become better students. This is why the following programs are studied in-depth:

  1. Microsoft Word
  2. Microsoft Excel -- spreadsheet program used to crunch numbers
  3. Microsoft PowerPoint -- presentation software
  4. Microsoft Access -- a database software
  5. Microsoft Publisher -- a program that helps in the design of printed material such as greeting cards, restaurant menus, wedding invitations, etc.
  6. Adobe Photoshop -- a program that edits photos
  7. Adobe ImageReady -- a program that turns photos into videos

Since the number one goal is to make the kids better students, the classes also tackle the following:

  1. Using credible websites when researching on the Internet
  2. Troubleshooting your personal computer
